December Presenter: * HealthWorldWeb - Daniel Kogan, CEO
Agenda: 6:30pm - 7:00pm Networking 7:00pm - 7:15pm Daniel Kogan, HealthWorldWeb CEO 7:30pm - 8:00pm Healthcare Reform brainstorming
I realize that the Holidays are upon us and the weather is getting colder, however please make your RSVP a firm one!!! We will have a fun and collaborative session.
Yesterday in WSJ: "Mr. Daschle, who Obama transition officials say will be nominated secretary of Health and Human Services, will suggest that Americans hold holiday-season house parties to brainstorm over how best to overhaul the U.S. health-care system."
So in the spirit of the holidays as well as our health we will follow Mr.Daschle's advice and while this will not be a "party" - we will hold a brainstorming session on how to solve America's problem. We will then collectively submit the suggestions to change.org blog when they reopen the posting again.
We also have an exciting presenter:
Daniel Kogan - CEO of Health World Web

Are the consumers ready to make their own choices when it comes to health coverage and tying those decisions to their everyday well being? Consumer Driven Health, HSA, HDPD - Philip Micali, CEO and Founding Principal of bWell International presented how his company is helping consumers as well as its clients to parse through the choices and help guide those decisions. “Buying, not being Sold, health insurance” was the topic of his presentation. Phil's company has a powerfull platform to make an informed decision between different health plans - HealthPlan Forecaster. After filling out some basic information about your health - the technology performs analytics on the best plan to choose from 1 to 20 years out. You have to wonder how the 20 year forecasts are performed and what statistical sampling is acorss all the registered users to make those reccomendation. bWell just added a Medicare Plan tool just in time for the Open Enrollment season. About bWell International bWell International, Inc. is a health benefits education company that believes health is wealth. bWell was founded to help consumers gain more confidence about their health coverage and lifestyle decisions. bWell provides businesses and individuals with health education and planning tools, including the bWell-informed Health Plan Forecaster, a learning tool that allows consumers to evaluate health plan options over time based on individual health and risk factors. The Health Plan Forecaster and several component parts--the Health Risk Assessment and the Educational Presentation--can be purchased on a standalone basis or as an integrated tool set. bWell's vendor-neutral educational and personal underwriting tools give individuals the knowledge and foresight they need to choose the right health plan from among many plan types (including HSA options), make the link between health and wealth assets, and make important health and lifestyle decisions. In addition, bWell helps build consumerism in healthcare and wellness services through the company's bWell-planning coaching and consulting services. |

Our first meeting for this group was great success!!!! We had a great mix of participants ranging from internal medicine, radiology, non-profit as well as the investment community.
There seemed to be some hesitance from majority of the group on sharing personal health information on the social networks and its adoption is questionable. My personal opinion is that the patients are taking matters into their own hands and it will move forward, however legal issues and regulations could halt it pretty quickly.
The conversation quickly evolved to Electronic Medical Records Technology, its current use and the future state. It is definitely a hot topic in the industry and that was a suggested topic for next time.
Some of the suggestions on improving the future meetups are:
-"Lets actually solve problems" -"Get innovative healthcare start-ups to present" -"Get the investment community more engaged" (which probably result out of start-up presentation or visa-versa (chicken-egg ;)
For those who attended, please review the meetup - your feedback is crucial to grow this community.
Once again many thanks to E Health Solutions (SigmaCare) for providing the conference room.
Our next meeting is set for October 23d but subject to change due to my potential travel for Helath 2.0 conference.
Thanks to all for coming out and looking forward to meeting the rest of you who could not attend.

Our first NY Healthcare Technology meetup to take place on September 18th, 2008 "Social Networks and Healthcare" patientslikeme.com, dailystrength.org and other social networks are augmenting the needs of the patients in today's proliferating online social experiences. Each of these sites are driven by hundreds of thousands of crowdsourcers. Can this last? What technology do these sites need to employ in order to keep the momentum going? Where does Google, Microsoft and other competing PHR efforts find their niche? Is anonymity attracting the patients? Are there devices that can be leveraged to help these sites grow? We will meet @: 360 West 31st Street, Suite 302 New York, NY 10001 |
