Happy New Year everyone! We are looking forward to a great 2010 - this is YOUR meetup so please speak up and contact myself of Lynn with any suggestions for topics, presenters or improvements in how the meetups are organized. As usual, I want to thank PRNewswire for continuing to sponsor us in the year ahead!

As most of you have seen, ONC has published "interim final" rules for meaningful use. By 2015, according to the ruling, we will start focusing on "patient access to self management tools, access to comprehensive patient data and improving population health". Next few years will be exciting times for the healthcare ecosystem and our meetup is in the epicenter of these discussions so RSVP now.

January meetup is dedicated to " enabling better care by enabling clinical staff" and we have just the presenters for that so RSVP now.

January 2010 Presenters:

1. YourNurseIsOn - Matthew Browning, CEO
Your Nurse Is On was developed in 2000 by a trained Family Nurse Practitioner in response to the inefficient relief staffing procedures found in healthcare today. With today's challenging environment of cost savings and instant communications it became apparent that calling replacement staff one at a time was no longer an adequate solution.

2. OmniPACS - Chris Chua, Founder and Managing Director
OmniPACS® empowers Healthcare professionals to share bio-imaging data in a way that is practical, safe, and easy to use. OmniPACS Inc. provides all of the services and system infrastructure necessary to conduct professional diagnostics and consultation, allowing Healthcare providers and consumers to harness the power of “Cloud Computing.”

Agenda for January Meetup:
6:30 - 7:00pm Networking (Some healthy snacks and drinks)
7:00 - 7:30pm Demos & Group Q&A
7:30 - 8:00pm 2010 Healthcare resolutions

See you all next Wednesday and dont forget to RSVP now.

It has been a busy few months and we have not gathered since September (shame on me).

To close out the year and celebrate our meetup's growth we will hold our last meetup for this year, so show up to speak up and give us feedback for next year.

Some news: Lynn Nezin represented us last week at the Web 2.0 conference. We were 1 of 11 NYC meetups selected to to showcase the growing meetup movement.

September Presenter:

Agenda for December Meetup:
6:30 - 7:00pm Networking (Some healthy snacks and drinks)
7:00 - 7:30pm Demos & Group Q&A

Every month our Health 2.0 NYC Chapter meetup gathers 40-50 people at PRNewswire offices and every month the dedication of our members truly amazes me. The thorough questioning of presenters, the contribution to the conversations, the caliber of the brainpower in this one room.... There have been a number of conversations around expanding the meetup size, to find a larger room and expand the reach of our Chapter. Personally, I love it the way it is – it gives us a chance to have focused conversation about the topic we love – how to help healthcare consumers!! We need your feedback on this, so please do not hesitate to contact myself or Lynn to voice your opinion.

First few quick announcements:

Unfortunately, I had to postpone HealthCampNYC due to a few venues falling through last minute. Please stay tuned but this will most likely happen in November once the venue is locked in.

Gel Health
We were fortunate enough to hear about another even taking place in NYC - Gel Health - in October and it is being organized by Mark Hurst. GEL is short for "Good Experience Live", Gel is a conference, and community, exploring good experience in all its forms -- in business, technology, art, society, and life. And now Mark brings the discussion of good experience to healthcare. For more information and to see the amazing lineup, please checkout - http://gelconference....

Now, a quick recap of our presenters:

DrChrono
First up was the dynamic duo form DrChrono - Michael and Daniel. These guys have been on NPR, Fox Business and many more and we were honored to hear them present their platform that connects doctors to patients. This is not a typical Health 2.0 company and while their products are focused on the back office it helps doctors practice what they love most – medicine. It is a Software-as-a-Service model that helps alleviate pains that physicians experience with scheduling, billing and practice analytics. Their scheduling software looks simple to use but features many neat features that I, as a patient would love – notification and reminders about my appointments via my preferred channels (i.e SMS, phone or email). Secondly, they offer full billing solution that expedites payments, provides reporting and saves the practice time. All that for hard-to-beat monthly price points. For more information take a look at DrChrono.com. Good luck with your efforts guys!

Next presenter, John Phelan from Zweena presented his Zweena Health Record platform. While it does not have all the bells and whistles that I would want in managing my PHR (yet) it solves a real issue that I have been talking about for a while now – getting your data out of the back rooms of the physician offices. It is my data and I want it. It took me over 3 months to get my records from my PCP and I quickly signed up for John’s offering to repeat the same in hopefully much less of a time. The sign-up process was simple and easy and the only outstanding component is the “Authorization to Release Medical Records” that I have to fax back to their office. The rest is handled by his team. For $20 I get my records from upto 4 doctors for 6 months. Keep an eye out for Zweena.

Lynn Nezin held an optional session at the end – “What do you look for in your doctor?” - and to my surprise about 80% of the room stuck around to participate. We will be posting the write up in a few days to update this group.

Once again – thank you all for participating and thanks to PRNewswire to continue hosting our meetups

See you all in October

Health 2.0 NYC Chapter August, 2009 Meetup Announced PDF Print E-mail
Written by Eugene Borukhovich

It's summertime, it's vacation time and for our August meeting we decided to do something different form our normal presentation style meetup. We will still hold our networking session where great minds can connect, create and cure together, but we will also divert from our focus on Health 2.0 and have an entertaining session. So please make your RSVP firm and reserve your spot today!

So what's on the agenda? We will have a "hot seat" guest speaker - M.E. Garza ("Dusty") that will be flying in from LA just for this event (well not really!!)

M.E. Garza is the Co-Founder of BiomedReports.com. A two-time Emmy nominated television producer and entrepreneur, Garza has been developing websites and Internet ventures since 1992. His background in media, advertising, marketing and public affairs has allowed him to lead and establish various companies in the broadband, entertainment and communications field. He resides in Los Angeles and loves to track the latest advances in biotechnology- which gives him "great hope and promise" for the future of mankind.

Dusty is a very entertaining, engaging and dynamic speaker and will speak first about his new venture. Beyond that, anything goes: healthcare reform - sure, stem cell research - sure, Emmy nominations - go for it!

As usual refreshments and "healthy" snacks will be served. So RSVP now!!
