Every morning at around 6am, I go to the gym and get on the elliptical. Every morning, there is the same pediatrician next to me. I read my books, he reads his New York Times. We always catch-up for a short conversation but then go on with our routines.

Well, this past Thursday it was different. We finally started talking about the healthcare stimulus and EMRs. And this is where it became a very interesting conversation.

I have written before about the aggressive nature of this deployment and the fact that the most important component is not time zero (0) and forward, but time zero (0) and back (at least for current population :)

The pediatrician's point of view was that kids HAVE NO HISTORY and while the helathcare stimulus will significantly offset these costs, what is it in for him? His thought is that pediatricians, in his word, "the lowest paid doctors", are now subject to this big push for electronic medical records and in his opinion should be exempt. "I have no time to even destroy the old records, how the hell will I digitize them?"

I know what my thoughts are, what are yours?
